I am always on the lookout for children’s books by Indian authors. My little bookworm has grown up reading all-time favourites like Dr. Seuss, Julia Donaldson, Enid Blyton, J.K.Rowling and Roald Dahl, to name a few. Being an Indian, I strongly believe that it is equally important to introduce her to Indian authors alongside. Their writing styles and sensibilities are very different from native English speaking authors, and offer a unique perspective to Indian lifestyle, culture and society.
So, today I recommend the book titled “Moin and the Monster”. It is a hilarious book about a boy called Moin and his monster friend! The monster friend can come to life only if Moin draws him. The only issue is that Moin is not very gifted when it comes to drawing. So, one can only imagine how funny the monster looks like when it comes to life. The book tracks the days in Moin’s life as his monster friend accompanies him everywhere, including to school. Moin and his 2 trusted friends must do everything they can to keep their monster friend a secret from the adults!
It is a light-hearted, enjoyable read for young children. The middle schoolers may find it “silly” But, my little one could not stop chuckling while reading this! For me, if a book can elicit that response from a child, it is definitely worth recommending.
