How many states of matter do we really have?

The question by itself sounds quite standard. But then if you consider that it is asked by Grade 5 child who has been taught that there are only 3 states of matter, the whole perspective changes. Here is a mind that is questioning what she has been taught and wondering if there is more than what is already know. Isn’t this how the 4th, 5th or 6th states of matter were discovered.

Last week was significant because the 5th state of matter was finally observed in space on the International Space Station (details here). It may take a while before I can explain the 5th and 6th state of matter to the child but I am just happy knowing that I am able to stimulate young minds in the right direction ?
