Today is celebrated as International Woman’s Day 2021. At the behest of my daughter, I looked up what the International Woman’s Day stands for on the internet. This is what I found – “International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the globe”.
History is proof that our world has indeed come a long way in terms of what women can do and achieve today. And the International Woman’s Day is a chance to encourage and motivate all women to believe in themselves and achieve their dreams.
So, I guess I should have shared a woman’s image to mark this day. But I did not – and for a reason. Have a look at the smiling faces of the kids here and ask yourself – if all girls and boys are given the same opportunities from the very beginning, would we need to celebrate something like Woman’s Day ever? Wouldn’t the biggest achievement of women around the world be when men and women are compared for their merit alone, and not for their gender.
Given equal opportunities from a young age, all children, girls or boys, are capable of achieving and competing at the same level. So, as women, lets make a pledge today – to offer all possible opportunities to the young girls in all areas and make sure that by the time they become women, Woman’s Day would become just another celebratory day to have a party!
