This week’s book recommendation is one of our favourites (in science fiction books) yet slightly controversial if you were to read about it on the internet. The opinions and summary here are entirely personal, based on the summarization from my 9-year old. I must also forewarn that the suggested reading age for this book is 12+. Mine is a voracious reader and does end up reading quite a few books ahead of the recommended age-group. The book has also been adopted into a movie in 2018 but as per my kid – “The movie is very different from the book, especially the ending. The book is way better!”

This multiple-award winning book is all about courage, adventure, teamwork and victory of good over evil. Of course, it is also about the possibility of space and time travel and “magical” planets. The premise is that the scientist father of 2 children goes missing and the kids along with their friend must travel across time and space to rescue him from the clutches of an evil thing, called IT, on another planet. IT stands for all things evil in the universe, and possesses people’s minds to replace all the good with evil. IT also forces them to only follow orders rather than think independently. The 3 children overcome their fears, learn to believe in themselves and eventually, defeat IT and reunite with their father.

If you are fascinated by the possibility of time travel, believe that STEM research could one day make this a reality, and are inspired, not intimidated by imagination, this book is definitely for you.
