For last week’s session, I had asked the kids to arrange for some 3-dimensional shapes such as a cube, pyramid and tetrahedron. I suggested that we could use toothpicks and fevicol, and left it for the children to figure out. In spite of the lockdown and limited availability of materials, the results are astounding (see the pics below)… And last but not the least, Navya (Grade 5) went ahead and even did a strength analysis of her structures. Now, if this is not engineering, then what is?? Research, innovation and engineering is a way of thinking that begins with such small steps, not necessarily only in the laboratory environment…
I wonder if the kids would have come up with such ideas on their own had I provided them with readymade kits or provided all the possibilities!
Waiting eagerly to see what the next batch comes up with. And they have a tougher challenge now that some options are already out here!
